Pilates, Recovery, and the Journey to Becoming a Pink Ribbon Exercise Specialist

When I first qualified as a Pilates Instructor, I didn’t expect the direction my career would take. As my classes grew, I began noticing a recurring pattern: more and more women were attending who were either preparing for, undergoing, or recovering from breast cancer treatment.

What struck me most was how many of them found that Pilates was helping them not just physically, but emotionally too. The gentle, controlled movements and focus on breath were allowing these women to rebuild strength, improve mobility, and regain a sense of connection with their bodies—something that’s often deeply affected by surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation.

It became clear to me that Pilates wasn’t just a form of movement; for these women, it was a vital part of their recovery.

As the demand grew, I started offering one-to-one sessions for clients who needed more personalised support. One client, in particular, had undergone lymph node surgery and wanted to regain strength and mobility in her arm. Working closely with her made me realise just how essential specialised knowledge is when supporting women through this stage of recovery.

In 2024, I decided to take that support to the next level and became a certified Pink Ribbon Program Exercise Specialist. This qualification allowed me to tailor sessions specifically for post-operative breast cancer recovery, providing a safe, structured, and compassionate approach to rebuilding strength, flexibility, and confidence.

Now, I’m proud to offer a recovery-focused Pilates programme that supports women wherever they are in their journey—whether they’re navigating treatment, post-surgery rehab, or long-term recovery. It’s about more than exercise; it’s about empowerment, healing, and creating a space where women feel strong, supported, and seen.
